The wait and the project
As we’re waiting for our second child to come, I’ve been working on my own baby, my Bolens 1054. I just purchased a hunk of metal (see image) that I intend to use as a parts tractor. So far so good. The main piece is the engine, its a 10HP Tecumseh Heavy Duty cast iron. Its also electric start which was key (who pulls a cord to start engines these days right?! ..). Engine turned over, seemed to have compression so I took a chance on it. I’ve since WD40′d it all up, put a bunch straight down the cylinder on top of the piston just in case as well. The electric start works. I just had to get a few pieces for it, plug cap, muffler, and did an oil chance. Oil was black as night, not sure the last time it was changed, but, having said that it...
All licensing, certifications and inspections due NOW
Due now, ya! I have to get my bike inspected, I have to get my teeth inspected on wednesday, I have to renew / update my insurance for my bike next week, I have to get my boating certificate, soon I’ll need to get my annual car inspection. Oh so many things to schedule, and call about. The one thing I don’t like very much about PEI is the requirement for yearly inspections, though having said that, last years inspection did find a serious issue with one of our wheel joints that was about to fall off :/ So they probably are good, just one more thing in the year you have to schedule for. It would be great to have a world government that could line up ALL your appointments with all the different agencies so you could take just one day off and get it all...
Maple Syrup Season
Its spring time and the sap finally started flowing… monday I think it was. Its snowing and below zero again today so I’ve not got anything else from the tree… The ‘regular’ season though is mid march to mid april so really, I’m still early. I tapped the trees probably 2 weeks early. We were getting some very mild days, well above zero almost throughout winter but somehow the tree knew it wasn’t time yet. Below is a pic of the next two days. These below zero nights and above zero days are exactly what the tree is waiting for, plus sunshine, to get it pumping sap. Somehow today we’re getting a snowy blizzard :/ Can’t wait for it to REALLY start flowing! I actually boiled down our very first 2 or 3 litres or...
Tertiary Backups
I own and primarily run OSX. I do use a windows machine for work but our home system is a Macbook (hope to move back to an iMac for a family system next go round). I like to use the built in stuff, A) because its there and B) because it will likely be the best since its made for the system. The built in stuff meaning ‘Time Machine’. And it does work, works great, I’ve restored from it after harddrive failure a few times. ONce the first backup is done, incremental are quick and totally feasible over wifi. That being said, the whole time machine backup file has gone corrupt on me 3 or 4 times, maybe more. What that means is that it has to delete the WHOLE and usually ONLY copy of backed up files (leaving you without a backup). It then starts from...
A comment on the state of our world
2 Timothy 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. I find this is so true. We strive for knowledge, educate ourselves, put lots of letters behind our names, make lots of money… And we end up having lots of pride in our own abilities. Also in university so many students end up having the idea that they are the ‘real’ thinkers in society, the free thinkers. And anything unrelated to religion of any kind is promoted as free thought. Anything different then Christianity anyways. The idea of the self made man, and the thought that we can do it on our own is promoted. It all adds up to a general experience and outcome that infact we end up learning less because we think we’re so advanced, the minds are closed,...
