The iPad Office
With the birth of our second child I’ve had the opportunity to attempt again to use the iPad as a workstation, albeit for some real basic tasks. Its served as our primary internet access in the hospital, via 3G (so glad that I got 3G. there are many different occasions when 3G is handy. Great for a phone call in a pinch when we don’t have our pay-as-you-go cellphone, or to look up an address, store ours, or phone numbers on the go. Also handy obviously anywhere there isn’t Wifi or where the Wifi happens to be down). The hospital here doesn’t have any publicly accessible Wifi and without Internet, well.. I don’t know what we would do. Great for posting quick pics of the new baby and shooting out emails here and there and then...
Morning fisherman
Not that you can see them so well but these are the first few of the fisherman that frequent the river. I really don’t think they ever get much, as our river,… Unfortunately… Is kinda dead do to lack of oxygen cause of chemicals and garbage over the years. Its nice entertainment though, not that there’s a lot of action, but always some kind of activity outside. I would love to see the day when people were catching fish there again! I did try out my fishin rod last year, caught nothing of course, I’m a horriblly impatient but the sport in itself is a kinda relaxing one. Today is Sunday, this might be the day the baby wants to come out. Sure is a nice sunny day for it! Birds are chirping, sun is hot and bright, people are out and...
Jumpstarter battery pack and cordless tools
One of the more handy things to have around the shop is this thing, a mobile battery pack. Something with a handle that you can take over to the car or the lawn tractor or whatever to provide power, light, etc. I love it, so versatile. And this particular model is even more handy than some of the other ones you can buy, this one has a light, a 12volt plug, usb charger, AND air compressor on the backside. An all around workhorse for all the powered help you may need around the shop. I’ve used the compressor a number of times now for bike tires, car tire top ups, really saves firing up the BIG compressor and saves going to a gas station. I like it cause you just pick up this little unit and go, no plugging it in or whatever like a real compressor. I have a...
The wait and the project
As we’re waiting for our second child to come, I’ve been working on my own baby, my Bolens 1054. I just purchased a hunk of metal (see image) that I intend to use as a parts tractor. So far so good. The main piece is the engine, its a 10HP Tecumseh Heavy Duty cast iron. Its also electric start which was key (who pulls a cord to start engines these days right?! ..). Engine turned over, seemed to have compression so I took a chance on it. I’ve since WD40′d it all up, put a bunch straight down the cylinder on top of the piston just in case as well. The electric start works. I just had to get a few pieces for it, plug cap, muffler, and did an oil chance. Oil was black as night, not sure the last time it was changed, but, having said that it...
Buying and selling
I’ve found a new part time hobby! Buying and selling stuff On usedpei usedeverywhere has created a couple apps for iPad and iPhone. One is used viewer, it simply let’s you view usedpei or other location sites, doesn’t let you post or edit ads etc. and when emailing someone about an ad, it shoots you out to the browser ( in app) to use the standard is the email form. The second is used post app, it’s for iPhone, but allows you to post real time, take pics and upload them right away, select categories, add price, etc. all the standard stuff you can do in the browser, but again it’s an iPhone app so no landscape orientation on iPad. It does do the job though. They really need to make an all in one iPad or universal app. Anyways, with...
