Daylight Savings Time
Daylight saving time (DST)—also summer time in several countries[1][2][3][4][5][6] including in British English and European official terminology (see Terminology)—is the practice of temporarily advancing clocks during the summertime so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn.[7] Modern DST was first proposed in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson.[8] Many countries have used it since then; details vary by location and change occasionally. So I get DST, allows more sun in the afternoon and therefore evening then ‘normal’. I get that. But why do we need it? I think we should shift ’9 to 5′ to the average sun up and...

Frost is on the ground and the furnace is on
We woke up to a frost on the ground and a chilly house, twas time to turn on the furnace, the oil at least for now. Since we’re heading to Ontario, we’ll need the oil furnace going to keep the place warm, after that, we hope to get the firewood furnace going asap. Can’t wait until I can get that one going! We have a busy week before we leave, I’ll be doing lots of stacking, packing and mac’ing. Ya, that was a stretch for a ryhme… I have to work all week but I have a lot of fall house prep to do, getting ready for 2 weeks in Ontario and working around that with contractors working on our bathroom. The good thing is, all this house reno *should* be basically complete by November! Then we can FINALLY start paying our mortgage :/...
Some topics for the day
Whats new… lets see. Its raining today. Ooh.. thats not new… I purchased 4 gigs of RAM for my Macbook2,1. My macbook is officially maxed out in terms of upgrades now, ram, harddrive (size AND speed – 7200rpm), OSX Snow Leopard. There is nothing more I can do really now for speed. Not that I’m having troubles really. Its just that when you’ve maxed out all you can in a system, the next step is to buy a new model. So this will need to last me another couple years – which I’m sure it will, I’m sure it will last min, another 2 years, it will likely just keep going and going until I decide its just too slow for me to get my work done. I to run Win XP for work though and its not going to get slower necessarily so as long...
Its rainy, but we were still busy all day long!
Its a beautiful rainy grey day here on the Island. We started off with an RRSP appointment at BMO, then to McDonalds for breakfast (just in the nick of time… why do they stop breakfast at 11am anyways? We’re hardly up by 11 on a saturday :/ ). After that we did some shopping. We decided we would make a coffee table, kinda my idea, I wanted to see if it could be done easily. Low and behold, it is a pretty quick little project for a saturday afternoon! (thanks to Home Depot for some nice finished wood to put together). Used a Mitre saw, router, various other hand power tools etc and made quite a nice little coffee table. Note to self: Get more router bits We also cleaned up our dining room, it was full of tools, dressers, and more tools, and a couple of...
