Breeding Hogs – A visit to a breeder of Berkshires

I visited a friend who is breeding Berkshires. He currently has 3 sows and 1 purebred Berkshire boar. They have just survived one of the harshest winters here and there isn’t much room outside to play around yet.

The sows will each have a litter of weaners anywhere from 8 to 10 or so weaners. Spring is of course the ideal time to have and sell them as people are looking to raise weaners for meat in the spring.

The pink and black dotted sow is a Duroc and the other black sows are purebred Berkshires.

Thanks for watching!
